Diary Entry:
September 29, 2022

The New Yorker has been sending their cartoonists out into New York to eavesdrop (or as I’ve been calling it, “Eavesdraw”) on its inhabitants, and publish their findings in their collection “Overheard in New York”.

1

I perched myself at the Comedy Cellar & Olive Tree Café in Greenwich Village

2
—my favourite place in all of New York— over the course of two months and scribbled down what I saw... and overheard. Verbatim.

Here are a selection — the rest are available over at the New Yorker.

Thank you for reading New York Cartoons. This post is public so feel free to share it.

Want to be first to see the behind-the-scenes process of how I made these?

1

Not to be confused with the original blog “In Passing” from 2000-2006, or the current version “Overheard in New York” created by Michael Malice and S. Morgan Friedman.

2

I have only performed at the Cellar once: when opening for Ronny Chieng back in 2018. I drew him as Worf from Star Trek to say thank you.
