#358: Sophie Runs the NYC Marathon, 10 Years of Meditation & #ScotchBathSunday!
+ NO-vember, Inkwell Halloween Sketchbook & Morris hates the cold.
I hope you’re having a tremendous Wednesday. We’re just over one week into November and one day into the Election year. God help us all. If you want to learn how to say NO to all kinds of shit, I’m running the 30-day No-vember challenge over at no-vember.net
Here are some sample posts:
Day #1: Welcome to NO.
Day #2: Say NO to one thing today.
Day #3: The Power of the Pause
Day #4: Say NO To People-Pleasing
Day #5: The 3 Whys
Day #6: What is Your Time Worth?
Day #7: Plan your New Year NOW.
1. Sophie Runs A Marathon!
Well, she did it! The champ finished the marathon in 4 hours, 54 minutes! I chased her around 3 of the 5 boroughs with goofy signs while she did the actual work of running 26.2 miles without stopping. (Ok, she stopped to enjoy my sign, and then again in Harlem to dance to Love Shack for 20 seconds with me, but then she kept running.) Thank you to everyone who chipped in to support her raising money for Ronald McDonald House in the Bronx.
Note: Paid Subscribers, stay tuned for the full report I’m writing up now!
(The title above was referencing the movie we watched the night before the race, starring Jillian Bell, called Brittany Runs A Marathon. It’s about a girl called Brittany who runs the New York Marathon. It’s good! We got to hang out with the very same Jillian while she was in New York last month. Morris fell in love with her long nails...)
2. How Plantar Fasciitis led to the discovery of my favorite Sunday ritual…
3. 10 Years of Meditation
Tomorrow, November 9th, marks 10 years since I started meditating every day. Its been the single most helpful habit I’ve ever formed, and the returns keep on compounding. These days I work on Sam Harris’ Waking Up meditation app, (which is way more than just a meditation app) and have learned way more than I ever thought there was to learn about the human mind. I’ll be posting my 10 Lessons from 10 Years of Mediating for paid subscribers later this week.
(If you want a free 30 day trial of the app, hit me up in the comments.)

While I do love the convenience of a Wacom tablet/Xenselabs tablet/iPad pro or whatever you like using… I can’t ever replicate the joy of using analog tools. I’m starting a new Substack in 2024 called “Process Junkie” to explore all of the joys of the Process of making art. If you’re interested in that kind of thing, you can sign up here.
Update:
Someone you might like has its own page! You can see them all here.
Until next time,
