#374: This publication becomes a Featured Substack for 2024 as I become obsessed with the Finnish President's Dog.
+ Prometheus ruins another Housewarming & Morris refuses to leave his chair.
…and Happy Leap Year!
Today is the 29th of February. This only happens roughly every 4 years, kind of like the election. Why? Well, as I learned from my trusty Almanac of New York City (care of Three Lives & Co. in Greenwich Village) the Leap Year happens because we need to play a bit of astronomical catch-up. The time it takes for Earth to orbit the sun doesn't work out to an even number of days. A solar year is actually 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds— the same amount of time it takes me to reach Inbox Zero.
Some fun News about this here newsletter…
My story about the New Yorker’s 98th Birthday Party became a featured post in
earlier this week, making this silly little publication a Substack Featured Pub for 2023 & 2024.There was a small selection of finger food near the window. I snapped up what I could before hitting the bar and bumping into a batch of cartoonists I hadn’t seen in years. In fact, this was the first time most of the attendees had been in the same room since the offices shut down in March of 2020—it felt like meeting at the other end of a war. Who survived, who moved to North Carolina, who grew a beard, etc. So much to catch up on. So much eavesdropping on writers talking about what they think of other writers not in attendance— Keep Reading…

This week’s Sketchbook is a series of sketches I made of Finland’s First Dog, Lennu. I’ve become a little bit obsessed with him. I wish he was on the ballot. And that I could vote. In Finland. For “Good Boy”.
While I do love the convenience of an iPad/Wacom/Xenselabs tablet… I can’t ever replicate the joy of using analog tools. I’m launching a new Substack called “Process Junkie” to explore all of the joys of the Process of making art. If you’re interested in that kind of thing, you can sign up here.
Until next time,
Your pal,
Jason
He’s also refusing to leave the house in the cold…
OMG, Lennu is an amazing beast! Look at that silly smile! Who could ever feel sad around that pup? Fantastic drawings of him.
