#383: Back in Paris, Drawing in Bryant Park & a Double-Nom!
+ Writing Partners and Morris took a minute, but he just got your dad joke
…from rainy Paris where Thursday is just wrapping up. I hope you’re having a great week so far.
On Wednesday night I was drawing guests at an event with fellow New Yorker cartoonist Sofia Warren in Bryant Park- You can see more in this week’s Sketchbook below. 👇
Afterwards, I jumped in an Uber with Sophie to JFK and onto the red eye to Paris for our 11th wedding anniversary!
We didn’t know what to get for gifts so we just got the thing we both like. Which is tickets to Paris. I’m told the traditional gift for 11 years is steel. And tulips. I suppose that could have meant a big train to Amsterdam? It is tulip season.
Anyway… follow along with my Paris stories on @newyorkcartoons for updates, or see previous Paris posts here.
An Honour to Be Double-Nominated!
I had to check if a blob of ink had flung onto my screen (not the first time today.) The sequence of letters and words in the email seemed to tell me I’ve been nominated for not one, but two divisions for this year’s Reuben Awards! The categories are Best Magazine/Newspaper Illustration & Best Online Longform. I honestly can’t believe it. This is my first time being nominated. I certainly don’t expect to be lugging home any awards in August, shrinking in the shadow of ink-slingers like Nick Galifianakis
This week’s Sketchbook is from a gig organized by ArtsClubNYC, mentioned above.
While I do love the convenience of an iPad/Wacom/Xenselabs tablet… I can’t ever replicate the joy of using analog tools. I’m launching a new Substack called “Process Junkie” to explore all of the joys of the Process of making art. If you’re interested in that kind of thing, you can sign up here.
…aaaaand he just got that joke you told him.
