#403: 40th Birthday Blowout in Japan, A Kyoto Sketchbook Sneak Peek, & A New Yorker Cartoonist's TED Talk!
+ Baby Morris murders a duck.
Welcome to Issue #403 of New York Cartoons
Apologies for the delay on this week’s post: Today is my 40th birthday.
I was picked up from the hotel, along with my mum & stepdad, in a van and taken on a ‘magical mystery tour’ around Japan, courtesy of my new friend, Yoshi-san. The rest of the day has been absolutely insane, culminating in the wildest birthday night of my life. There were Geisha Drinking Games, There were Soy Sauce Drawings, There was Saké. I’ll be sharing the story with paid subscribers soon… stay tuned.
A New Yorker’s TED Talk!
My good pal and fellow New Yorker cartoonist
did a TED talk back in April about using cartoons and the art of graphic memoir to time travel— also how A.I. can actually be used in a not-so-horrible way to connect with the past. (Amy’s father is Ray Kurzweil. If you know who that is, you know how significant this talk —and her new book— is.)Take part:
If you’re a cartoonist or artist of any kind reading this, it helps to signal boost these kinds of things so more people get to see them. So, if you like,

2. In one image: Draw your favorite moment and/or draw your thoughts/feelings/some-creative-image in response to some moment or message of the talk.
3. Share your work onlineand tag @AmyKurzweil + talk link + #AmyKurzweilTedTalk
This week’s Sketchbook is a sneak peek from my Kyoto sketchbook… more soon!
