…Coming to you from the sunny streets of Hell’s Kitchen, welcome to Issue #434 of New York Cartoons!

This week’s edition has a particularly Aussie flavour to it (that’s right, flavoUr) since tonight, I’m doing a comedy show at the only Australian bar in New York; Old Mates. Regular readers might remember I attended the very blurry, *unofficial* opening night earlier this year with a slew of Aussie expats like Hamish & Andy, and Succession’s Sarah Snook (now kicking goals on her extended run on Broadway in The Picture of Dorian Gray.)

All proceeds from tonight’s show go directly to the KIDS Foundation, supporting young people as they recover from trauma and injury. If you can’t make the show, I’d encourage anyone to donate to the good cause.

Meanwhile in Australia 🤣 | Welcome back New Zealand ... wait ...

Some people are surprised to read that I’m from Australia. I’ve lived in New York for nearly 11 years, but I still have the accent (well, mostly… it’s a weird one.) Not quite as weird as the one in this now viral clip from Queensland: “the Florida of Australia”. Truly has to be seen to be believed…

Just one more week before the new book “You’re Not A Real Dog-Owner Until…” is on shelves! I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s now #1 in New Releases in Comic Strips on Amazon! I’ve never heard of the other two on the list… 😁

We flung a bunch of advance copies to friends and colleagues, and the results have been so nice:

Thanks to longtime MAD Art Director Sam Viviano for this picture with the master of the house doing a quality check...

From Patrick McDonnell — creator of the Mutts comic strip:

From former-MAD Editor and Futurama Director, Bill Morrison:

From Reuben Award-winning cartoonist for Speed Bump, Dave Coverly:

A quick word on the book from yours truly… and Morris.

Again, if you’d like a copy for yourself or the dog lover in your life, please be sure to order one here — Oh! And if you do, email me your receipt here for a special little gift!

New Waking Up Portrait: Dan Harris

I’ve been lucky to have drawn over 100 portraits for

Sam Harris
Waking Up app over the past few years, and this week, a new conversation with Dan Harris (no relation) dropped- and it’s one of his best yet. You can listen to it on the app, or watch their helpful discussion about Staying Calm in a Turbulent World on YouTube here.

Thank you, and welcome to all my Process Junkie subscribers who have now jumped in the big boat with New York Cartoons. I’ll still be sending you direct emails about the creative process, tools, tips, and behind-the-scenes looks at how I make my art— if you don’t want to receive these emails, feel free to uncheck the box here.

The Night Trump Blocked Me on Twitter.

I’d just finished my last comedy spot for the night (and my fifth whiskey) and descended into the subway at West 4th. The first two spots didn’t go well, the last one did. I was on a high.

Great cause :-) and I can't wait for my book! :-D

And I live next to Canada and have friends there. I know their U is not quite the same as your U (same DNA but different development?), but IMHO you can U as much as you want - you'll get no argument outta me!

I hid these cards around New York and got the weirdest emails back.
How a real-world experiment to 'find my rat people' resulted in some of the craziest responses from Real New Yorkers.

Silencing the Court Jesters.
10 years ago, cartoonists were murdered for drawing offensive things. Things have not been getting better since.
