Love that pool drawing, combining real world + funny scrawls. Don't love: Cold plunges. But fortunately I can start my workday without it. Unless I'm spending way too much time commenting on Substack posts.

Congratulations!! Maybe those old English schoolmasters were really on to something when they made those poor boys take those cold showers...character-building and all that..

I watched a BBC documentary about Finland and why they’re so happy, and one of the things that happened was a pitch competition IN a cold plunge. People did the plunge while laying out a business plan for investors. So. Two challenges in one. And they’re so happy!

I hate the cold. HATE. IT. I love heat. I love it more with high humidity and thunderstorms brewing. A couple of weeks ago when the temperatures were in the upper 90s and the heat index was around 115 (36 and 46 for those who speak Celsius), I went out for brisk walks. At noon. My hot water heater is set at Will Scald Me If I'm Not Careful. If you toss me into cold water, the water would probably bubble and I would erupt into the first human geyser.

You have my admiration, sir.

Our local YMCA lap pool is so cold sometimes I just make it my cold plunge. When I've spent 40 minutes paddling around (and the first 10 were on tiptoe) -- character building has definitely transpired for the day!

Update— now I’m adding 7 min in a hot whirlpool and 60 seconds in the real cold plunge (thighs down to ankles). Those artic swimmers may know something!
