Getting Humaned, My Road Kit, & Deathbed Comedy
#447: Plus! On the road again...
Hey again, friend.
Welcome to issue #447 of New York Cartoons! I’m writing this from the kitchen nook of the RV I’ve been hurtling across America in for the past 6 days. We just passed the “Welcome to California” marker after tumbling South through Oregon for a couple of days. My sister and her boyfriend are up front of the rig: Andy is in charge of driving and navigation, Jodie is in charge of podcasts and photos.
I’ve written up our adventures from this past week, along with sketches, photos and videos, for paid subscribers later this week. To unlock access, you can upgrade your subscription for just $1 a week by clicking here.
I had a chat with expert van-lifer Brendan Leonard last week ahead of my trip to press him for tips on how to survive on the road. You can watch the full replay here:
Adventures in Self-Publishing, Deathbed Comedy, & Why Walking is Running with Brendan Leonard
Yesterday, I spent over an hour chatting with my old pal, Brendan Leonard, the patron saint of enthusiastic mediocrity and author of books with titles like I Hate Running and You Can Too.
With that, let’s kick on to this week’s edition— thank you as always for subscribing, and I’ll see you in the comments!
Your pal,
Jason
The book has been doing well. If you’re still thinking about getting a copy for yourself or a friend with a pup, you can still order signed copies by clicking here.

The Taste Gap (And Why Your Art Is Trash at First... But That’s Okay)
When I first started out as a cartoonist, I thought I was pretty good. Not, like ‘Pat Oliphant hot shit’—more like ‘Mid-2000s Gawker hot shit.’ Which is to say: confident, under-edited, and mostly noise. Emphasis on shit.

Morris! Missing you I bet!
