You smell the ink. You feel the weight of the premium paper. You realise a group of stubborn artists and writers successfully willed a tangible object into existence, and you know what? It’s giving me goosebumps thinking about how big this new thing could be.

My friends and I at The Metropolitan Review are officially launching our inaugural print edition this Thursday, April 2nd, in Manhattan. It’s a massive labour of love. I now operate as the Cartoon Editor of this great new publication- going forward, I will curate the absolute best artists, and try to ensure every single piece of humour lands perfectly on actual paper. I illustrated this issue, but I will be calling on all my cartooning friends to fill the pages of the ensuing issues now that we have a little more time up our sleeves. I’m incredibly proud of how this entire issue turned out.

So, As I said, we’ll be hosting a massive launch party at Hurley’s in midtown to celebrate. You need to be there. We will sell exclusive limited edition prints. We will gather in a physical room to celebrate human beings making real art.

(Via the official account:) Founded in 1892, Hurley’s is a historic landmark and watering hole for the ink-stained literati. Jimmy Breslin liked to knock back a pint or two in its booths. We’ll be in the beautiful second-floor library bar.

Here’s the deal. We’ve got two tiers of tickets available: $20 and $45. For $20, you get in the door, meet all the writers and editors, and have a grand literary night out. All party proceeds go straight into the magazine, to pay our writers and keep us afloat. We are a nonprofit and firmly depend on the kind support of our readers.

For $45, you get discounted entry to the party and our historic first print issue. We only printed 500 of these, and they’re already going very quickly. If you want your hands on a print copy, you need to buy at this tier. Supply is very limited, and there’s no guarantee that if you fall in love with the inky stacks on the table they’ll still be on sale. We will loyally reserve copies for those who bought for $45.

Capacity is strictly limited, and we already show close to a hundred tickets sold. Someone online actually asked if the dress code is ‘saloon elegant’. I have absolutely no idea what that means. Just put on pants and show up.
