Talking writing humour in cartoons and comics this weekend!
...at the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Philadelphia
Hey again, friend!
This weekend, my writing partner, Scott, and I will be guests at the 2025 American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition in Philadelphia — the Largest Library Event in the World! Other speakers at the event include Brené Brown, George Takei, Geena Davis, and our former podcast guest, Roy Wood Jr, among many others. If you’re in the area, come by and say hello!
We’ll be signing our newest book, “You’re Not A Real Dog Owner Until…” and being interviewed on a panel discussing the topic of writing humour in cartoons and comics. We’ll be joined by our old pal, author, staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and fellow New Yorker cartoonist,
Perlman (Hi, It’s Me Again), along with Lauren Haldeman (Wild That We're Alive). Our interviewer will be our editor on the book, Lucas Wetzel!FROM THE WEBSITE:
Lucas Wetzel, senior editor at Andrews McMeel, will lead a panel discussion exploring the topic of humour in comics, including the unique ability of one-panel cartoons to serve as comic relief, personal expression, and social commentary. Joining him will be four authors from upcoming books, including several New Yorker cartoonists, a staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, an independent comics creator, and a comics scholar. The discussion will end with a Q&A.
