#337: Jumping ship from Mailchimp to Substack, Café Anne, & Morris says "Hello."
New platform. Same old stupid cartoons.
I hope you’re having a great start to the week!
I’ve just ported my weekly email subscription platform from Mailchimp over to Substack, and what a welcome wagon they rolled out for me! Not only did they give me a boatload of advice on how to move you over without buggering the whole thing up, they also made this little newsletter a Featured Publication for 2023!
I’m thankful to Substack for making the transition as seamless as possible for an idiot like me. I hope you like it here.
Some housekeeping: If you’re viewing this via email, you’ll see your free weekly cartoon at the top. It is about a porpoise. I hope you like it. If you’re just viewing this as a post on the Substack website: no dice. (You have to subscribe to view the cartoon.)
Although this is only technically the 29th newsletter I’ve posted to on the new platform, it is actually the 337th weekly newsletter I’ve sent out in the past 7 years. So, I’ll be continuing that numbering from here on in. If you have any issue with that, please direct your complaints to this fellow here:
Introduce yourself!
The thing I’m most excited about with the new platform is your ability to chat with OTHER readers just like you. (This feature isn't mandatory. But it is free.) Feel free to introduce yourself below.
Writing about Talking (on stage)
This past week I published a piece on an old New York comedy institution and a recollection of how I came to make it my second home. You can read it below:
Top 3 things this week:
The new book is getting great advance reviews!
Modern Family Writer & EP, Danny Zuker & Seinfeld/Simpsons Writer, Tom Gammill both said some nice things about my new book with Scott. Take a peek here. The book comes out in under two weeks!#Manhattanhenge
As well as being Memorial Day on Monday, it was also the first day of the year that the sun lined up with all of the streets of Manhattan. It’ll only happen again for 2 days in July. A bunch of lunatics (myself included) race to 14th, 23rd, 42nd, or 59th streets and take amazing photos (mine are terrible) of the sun setting over the Hudson, framed by iconic buildings.Plastered in the city
If you see any of these around New York, take a photo and post it, tag or email me, and I’ll give you a full-year Premium Subscription on the house!
As always, thank you for being a subscriber and reading my silly cartoons.
Your pal,
Jason
(This is him happier than he’s ever been.)
If you enjoy my work, then there’s a fair chance you might like the people I enjoy too. Each week I will be sharing a new person who tickles my fancy.
Anne Kadet is a local journalist who has channelled her talents to a weekly newsletter with a focus on New York City. Anne takes a fresh look at the quotidien, delights in the absurd (my favourite), and profiles unusual folks in New York who do things their way.
I’ve been a paid subscriber to Anne’s newsletter for ages, and look forward to getting it every week. I would highly encourage you to take a peek for yourself. (She even has her own theme song!)

Love the cartoon for someone you might like and Love Cafe Anne! I’m a New Yorker living in Chicago and the Eric Adams updates and the war on rats is a great way to start any week!
Café Anne is one of substack’s treasures!
