Don't Forget! DMA#31 this Thursday at 12:00pm EST with special guest New Yorker Cartoonist & Author, Bob Eckstein
The cartoonist, author, snowman historian, and man who has somehow illustrated every great museum in North America, will join me for a chat this Thursday at noon.
This Thursday at 12:00 pm Eastern, I will be drawing and yammering live with the prolific Bob Eckstein. The New Yorker cartoonist, bestselling author, and man who literally wrote the book on snowmen. The writer whose Substack, , is one of the most generous newsletters about comedy writing on the platform.
(Seriously. I know how you are. If you do not put it in the calendar, you’ll forget and then feel guilty about it later.)
If you haven’t met Bob’s work yet, here’s the short version: He has been published in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Playboy, and everyone else who has ever paid a cartoonist on purpose. He has published books on bookstores, snowmen, sketching, cats, museums, and the absurdity of human behaviour. He is also one of the only cartoonists I know who can talk for an hour and leave you feeling both entertained and oddly smarter.
This will be his first time on DMA, and there are about a thousand things I want to ask him. His process. His sketching habits. How he comes up with so many ideas for great books and cartoons. What it is like to make a book out of every bookstore and museum in North America -and how he somehow manages to run a Substack that is both funny and informative without sounding like he’s trying too hard.
Look, I could pretend this is purely educational, that I’m doing this for the community. But the truth is that I am talking to someone who can teach me more than a thing or two about comedy writing. I’m trying to glean as much wisdom from him as I can while he is willing to sit in front of a camera with me. You get to watch me do that in real time.
Bring your questions. Bring your drawing requests. Bring a snack if you like. And yes, the replay will go behind the paywall after the live show.
What is a DMA?
It is like an AMA, except instead of me staring at the camera like a man waiting for a train, I actually draw the things you ask for while chatting with my guest. It is one part interview, one part sketch session, and one part pure chaos. People seem to enjoy it. I enjoy it. And Bob will definitely enjoy it because I made him sign a contract saying he would enjoy it.
See you Thursday at noon.
Your pal,
PS. If you have questions for Bob or want me to draw something specific, drop it in the comments during the chat. If you can’t make it, drop them in the comments below. He is extraordinarily patient and will happily play along while I attempt to remain on topic.

Bob's ability to turn seemingly mundane subjects like bookstores and snowmen into compeling books is impressive. The format of drawing while interviewing sounds like it adds a whole other dimension to the converastion. Will you be sketching something related to snowmen or museums during the chat? Looking forward to seeing how you both navigate between serious craft talk and the natural chaos of live drawing.
