A Small Question about your Inbox
New York Cartoons in 2026 + Morris says hello!
Hey friend,
I’ve been thinking about the rhythm of this Substack the way you think about a gym membership you keep paying for, convinced your future-self is about to become a different person.
Every time I hit publish, I’m making a little bet about what you want from me. Do you want the long essays where I disappear into the cave and return with a story, a cartoon, and mild emotional trauma? Or do you want more frequent, smaller posts that feel like quick notes from the studio? A sketch, an overheard line, a mini rant about pens, a tiny win, a tiny loss, Morris doing something humiliating?
There’s a practical reason I’m asking. These here intertubes is currently designed like a needy houseplant that only survives if you whisper affirmations and Taylor Swift lyrics at it twice a day. Meanwhile, the work I’m proudest of usually takes time. It needs a few drafts, a few walks, a few moments where I stare at the ceiling and think, “This is either art, or I’m having a mild stroke.”
But you’re the one opening the emails. You’re the one donating your attention, which these days is rarer than a quiet carriage on the F train.
So, I’m running my annual poll…
How would you prefer New York Cartoons in 2026?
Daily-ish short posts (quick hits, sketches, links, small observations)
Fewer long posts (bigger essays, deeper reporting, more polished)
A mix (short posts most days, plus a longer essay every week or two)
No strong preference: I’ll read whatever you make.
Please do fewer emails overall (I love you, but my inbox is a crime scene)
Vote in the poll below. Then feel smug for the rest of the day because you’ve participated in democracy without having to queue or wear a sticker.
Thanks, genuinely.
Your pal,

I put "a mix of both" though it feels more like "I'll read whatever" - basically, if you have a bunch of shorter posts, I'd rather those get published as they come rather than saved for a single longer post. But I also love your longer, deeper dives, whenever those get made. Is this helping? This is not helping. Happy New Year!
I enjoy the long posts as I admire and enjoy your talent for writing and capturing the experiences, humor and deep thought into art and life.
